Research Project Forming a transdisciplinary bioethics network
Project Leader Dr. Satoshi KODAMA, Graduate School of Letters, Kyoto University
Objectives The present time has witnessed so-called bioethical issues, i.e. the developments in medical science and technology that may have profound ethical, legal and social implications. Such issues include assisted reproductive technology such as NIPT and IVF, end-of-life issues including euthanasia and advance directives, regenerative medicine and research integrity. Although these topics are of significant importance both domestically and internationally, Japan has lagged behind in setting up transdisciplinary educational and research centers that can help the government to make informed policies and regulations. This project aims to lay a foundation for such a center in Kansai area, by forming a transdisciplinary network of researchers who are working in the field of bioethics.
