Project Leader Dr. Yasushi UMEDA,Professor, Department of Precision Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo
Objectives Human society has designed various kinds of artifacts and utilized them in the history. Since the circumstances of design and, accordingly, social values are changing rapidly, design, which should be based on social values, should progress according to such changes. In this study, we discuss the relationship between social values and design from a comprehensive viewpoint and pursue ideal ethics of design including ideal form of design. Especially, we study environmental issues in different societies (i.e., Japan and developing countries) as a case study and try to clarify the relationship between social values and design based on the case study.
