At the IIAS Research Conference 2012, we aim to elucidate the social, developmental and evolutionary basis, as well as the neural basis of kokoro, the human mind. In the previous meeting of IIAS Research Conference held in 2011, we focused on the brain functions and the molecular mechanism of human mind or consciousness. The IIAS Research Conference 2012 this year takes more holistic approach to understand the evolutionary basis of human mind: We highlight different approaches such as primatology and cognitive robotics that have uniquely developed in Japan. The principal purpose of this conference is for wide range of world-leading researchers to focus on the issues of brain and mind from a broad perspective. Understanding human mind will be promoted by the multidisciplinary approaches combining neuroscience, comparative cognitive science, ethology, developmental science, cognitive robotics, experimental social science, and so forth. We will bring the latest unpublished research data. We do hope to see the new seeds of academic disciplines.
